Holy Trinity Parish History

The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church was established in 1967, first as a mission chapel under the auspices of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of New Orleans. Up until that time, many of the Orthodox faithful attended services at Keesler Air Force Base under the direction of Chaplain Lt. Col. Michael Margatich.

When the Air Force awarded a bid for the construction of a new chapel, Father Margatich was instrumental in persuading the contractor to give the old building to the Coast Orthodox community. An ad hoc committee was designated to arrange for the financing and moving of the building to its present location. The lot where the church stands, 255 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, Mississippi, had been previously donated to the New Orleans church for a church here on the Coast, by philanthropist Will Rich. The New Orleans church gave the land to our church shortly before Holy Trinity's consecration in November 2014.

We remained under the New Orleans church until December 1983, when we were awarded a charter by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.

In the summer of 1987, the community awarded a contract for extensive renovation and repairs to the church. The work was completed in early summer of 1988, resulting in its present appearance. Stained glass windows were added not long after by various families in memory of loved ones.

On November 14-15, 2014, Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta consecrated Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Several priests from surrounding parishes in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida assisted the Metropolitan in the Consecration which is the Baptism and Chrismation of the church. The Consecration of the church centers on the holy altar table that represents the tomb of Christ. Holy Relics of three martyred saints (St Panteleimon the Great Martyr & Healer, St Kyrikos the Martyr, and Holy Fathers martyred in the Monastery of Pantokratoros in Daou Pentelis) of the Orthodox Church were transported from New York to Holy Trinity in Biloxi, where they were sealed in the church altar along with names of those from Holy Trinity who are deceased or still living as well as friends of Holy Trinity.
